Referencing the history of Indian cricket, Kaif explained that great captains have always backed their experienced players during difficult times.
Kaif shared that when Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh were struggling with poor form, Sourav Ganguly showed faith in them. Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma himself have always backed match-winning players during their captaincy tenures. According to Kaif, Shubman Gill will now have to carry this tradition forward and convince the coach and selectors.
