Manav Suthar – From Rajasthan to a 10-Wicket Test Hero
Some journeys don’t begin under the bright lights of a packed stadium.
They begin on dusty grounds, with endless overs, repeated failures and one simple dream – to play Test cricket for India.
And today, that dream belongs to a young left-arm spinner from Rajasthan – Manav Suthar.
At just 24 years of age, Manav has gone from domestic cricket, to the IPL, to India A and finally, to becoming a Test match winner.
And against Sri Lanka in Galle, he didn’t just make an impact.
He made history.
Manav Suthar – The grind
Manav Suthar was born on August 3, 2002, in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.
A slow left-arm orthodox bowler, his biggest weapon was never raw speed.
It was patience, accuracy and the ability to keep bowling in the same dangerous area.
He made his First-Class debut for Rajasthan in 2022.
And very quickly, the numbers started speaking.
Before his international breakthrough, Suthar had already taken 147 wickets in 32 First-Class matches, at an average of just over 25 runs per wicket.
He had also collected eight five-wicket hauls and had a best innings figure of 8 wickets for 33 runs.
That’s not a lucky season.
That’s consistency.
And consistency is what turns talent into a career.
Manav Suthar – The door to India
His performances earned him opportunities with India A and eventually the Gujarat Titans in the IPL.
But the real turning point came in 2023.
Before the ODI World Cup, Manav was invited to bowl in India’s training camp.
Imagine the situation.
A young domestic spinner… bowling to some of the biggest names in Indian cricket.
And reports from that camp said his spin troubled even batters like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
That was a sign.
But a sign is not success.
Manav still had to wait.
Still had to perform.
Still had to earn his Test cap.
Manav Suthar- The dream finally comes true
Then came June 2026.
Manav Suthar made his Test debut for India against Afghanistan.
And what a debut it was.
He took 6 wickets for just 33 runs in an innings.
Across the match, he picked up 7 wickets and was named Player of the Match as India won by an innings and 300 runs.
He became only the ninth Indian man to win Player of the Match on Test debut.
Think about that.
Your first Test.
Your first opportunity to represent India in the longest format.
And instead of looking like a newcomer…
you look like you’ve belonged there all along.
Manav Suthar – Galle: The moment
But the biggest chapter was still waiting.
Sri Lanka.
Galle.
A venue where spin can become an art.
And Manav turned it into his stage.
In the first innings, he bowled 21.4 overs, gave away 76 runs and took 4 wickets.
But he wasn’t finished.
India set Sri Lanka a target of 372 runs.
And when Sri Lanka came out to bat again, Manav came back with even more control.
Six more wickets.
Six.
That took his match tally to:
10 wickets.
Four in the first innings.
Six in the second.
And India won the Test by 165 runs, taking a 1–0 lead in the two-match series.
And here’s the number that tells you just how special this was.
Manav Suthar became the youngest Indian to take a 10-wicket haul in an away Test.
But behind those 10 wickets…
there were years of bowling.
Hundreds of spells.
Domestic matches where nobody was watching.
Days when selection didn’t come.
